USFS - Tongass National Forest Recreation Cabins
Sitka Ranger District

General Notes:

Bears are common around many recreational cabins. Please do not feed the bears; it is both dangerous and illegal. Burn your trash or dispose of it so that bears are not attracted by food odors. Keep food items neat and clean. Warn bears of your presence by making noise when in dense cover.

Although the water may look clear and pure, it may still contain the microscopic organism, Giardia lamblia. Ingestion of this nasty thing causes an intestinal disorder which will surely ruin your visit to Alaska. Boil or treat all water before drinking.

Moisture, along with cold, wind and exhaustion, can cause hypothermia. Rain gear is essential in this wet climate.
