RULES
- NO SHOES, NO SMOKING and NO ANIMALS in the cabin. The cabin is not toddler safe. You must have a valid Alaska Fishing License to fish or crab.
- NO BON FIRES. The fire wood supplied is for the wood stove only. No fires are allowed on the beach.
- DO NOT PLACE THE BBQ ON EITHER DECK. Place the BBQ on the beach or in front of the lower deck.
- Early check-in is 3:00 PM. Late check-out is 11:00 AM.
TRAIL/BEACH ACCESS
The cabin is accessible by beach at a mid to low tide. It is approximately a 7 minute walk (1/4 mile). There is a back trail that starts at our parking lot and approaches the cabin from the back. This is a beautiful hike and will take about 15 minutes. There are some steep portions and rubber boots are recommended. The portion of the trail that splits off to the cabin is less defined and may be difficult to find.
PARKING
There are 3 parking spaces adjacent to end of Fritz Cove Road. Turn left down the dirt road. The
first space immediately to the left of the dirt road can be used by our guests.
It will be marked. Parking is also allowed along Fritz Cove Road (note the signs).
BOAT OUTHAUL
The outhaul rope holds the skiff far enough from the shore to avoid beaching during the low tides. ALWAYS CLIP THE ROPES TOGETHER at the top to keep the wind from blowing the skiff in to shore. When the boat lead line is fully to the end, pull in about 10 feet to avoid the bow line from wrapping around the end stakes (this can happen from tide action). If the skiff does become beached, use the gray plastic rollers to slide the skiff back into the water.
SKIFF & CANOE
Always wear life jackets and use the float seat cushions. DO NOT leave the seat cushions in the rain, they become saturated and ruined.
KAYAK RENTALS
There are (2) single-person kayaks and (1) double-person kayak available for rent on the premises. Rates are as follows:
Single kayak = $40/day
Double kayak = $50/day
5-10 day rental = 20% off total rental cost
Prices do not include Juneau sales tax of 5%.
WATER & WATER PUMP
The water is from a reservoir above the cabin. The water is a light tea color from the surrounding muskeg (organic ground cover). The water can stain white items being washed. It also results in light brown stains in the shower.
10 gallons of drinking water will be available in the kitchen at the beginning of your stay. The reservoir water is surface stream water and subject to contamination. It is safe to shower in and to wash laundry and dishes, however we do not recommend that you drink it.
CHECK WITH THE OWNER FOR AVAILABILITY OF WATER
There can be dry spells in Juneau that affect the reservoir level. There is the possibility that the cabin could have no water until the next rain. This is a rural setting sometimes lacking the conveniences of being on the road system. Check the reservoir water level at the beginning of your stay and periodically thereafter. Breaking the
siphon and running the pump dry can damage the system. If the pump runs for more than 2 minutes, turn it off at the breaker panel. This is an indication that the pump is dry and failure to turn it off can result in damage to the pump.
TOILET & WASTE WATER
The grey water (sinks, shower and washer) empties directly into the stream below the cabin. Try not to put too much garbage down the sink drain. Biodegradable soaps are supplied. The toilet empties into the blue settling tank. PLEASE USE TOILET PAPER SPARINGLY. DO NOT FLUSH PADS OR TAMPONS.
WOOD STOVE
There is split wood supplied for the stove. The stove has a draft damper on the side and a flue thermostat at the back of the unit. EMPTY ASHES IN THE METAL BUCKET PROVIDED.
KITCHEN STOVE
The kitchen stove is fueled by the propane tank below. The gas is ignited by an electric spark. Activate the spark by turning the burner knob to the fully open position and holding it there. You will hear the spark clicking. ADJUST TO A BLUE FLAME. A blue/orange flame mix creates soot.
