Ketchikan Ranger District
Information on cabins available through a special drawing can be obtained after January 1st by writing to the Southeast Alaska Visitor Center, 50 Main Street, Ketchikan, AK 99901 or by calling (907) 228-6214 and TTY 228-6237.
Anchor Pass Cabin (K-01)
- Location: On mainland across Anchor Pass from the east end of Bell Island.
- Air Access: 60 miles from Ketchikan, minium flight time charged = 2.0 hrs.
- Tide: Any, buoy provided.
- Unapproved Water Source: Stream near cabin.
- Wildlife: Sitka black-tailed deer, mountain goat, black bear, brown bear.
- Fish: Good for saltwater species. Closed to king and coho salmon in some areas of Behm Canal. Check state fishing regulations.
- Seasonal Use: Yearlong

Blind Pass Cabin (K-02)
- Location: Northwest side of Hassler Island off of Behm Canal.
- Air Access: 40 miles from Ketchikan, minium flight time charged = 1.6 hrs.
- Tide: Any, buoy provided.
- Unapproved Water Source: Stream near cabin.
- Wildlife: Sitka black-tailed deer, black bear.
- Fish: Good for saltwater species.
- Seasonal Use: Yearlong

Fish Creek Cabin (K-03) (special drawing May-September)
- Location: Northeast end of Thorne Arm at Fish Creek.
- Air Access: 18 miles from Ketchikan, minium flight time charged = 1.2 hrs.
- Tide: Any.
- Unapproved Water Source: Stream near cabin.
- Wildlife: Sitka black-tailed deer, black bear, beaver, mink and marten.
- Fish: Steelhead, cutthroat, rainbow trout, Dolly Varden, salmon from August thru September.
- Seasonal Use: Yearlong

Heckman Lake Cabin (K-05) (special drawing May-September)
- Location: Northcentral Revillagigedo Island between Jordan and Patching Lakes, 139' elevation.
- Air Access: 18 miles from Ketchikan, minium flight time charged = 1.2 hrs.
- Unapproved Water Source: Lake.
- Wildlife: Sitka black-tailed deer, black bear.
- Fish: Rainbow, Dolly Varden, cutthroat and steelhead in Naha River. Sockeye and coho salmon may be taken July thru September.
- Seasonal Use: April thru October

Helm Bay Cabin (K-06)
- Location: South side of Helm Bay on Cleveland Peninsula, saltwater cabin.
- Air Access: 24 miles from Ketchikan, minium flight time charged = 1.2 hrs.
- Water Access: Approximately 25 miles from Ketchikan.
- Unapproved Water Source: Stream near cabin.
- Wildlife: Sitka black-tailed deer, mountain goat, brown bear, black bear.
- Fish: Bugge Lake offers western brook trout and cutthroat. Crab fishing at 20 fathoms at head end of Helm Bay. Red snapper, sockeye and coho salmon.
- Seasonal Use: Yearlong.

- Nautical Chart: 17422
- Note: This is a larger type Pan-Abode cabin, 16x20. There are two sleeping rooms with bunks for eight people.
Jordan Lake Cabin (K-07)
- Location: Revillagigedo Island east of Naha Bay, 66 ft. elevation.
- Trail Access: 4.3 miles from Naha Bay, or 2 miles from Heckman Lake/helicopter.
- Unapproved Water Source: Lake.
- Wildlife: Sitka black-tailed deer, black bear.
- Fish: Rainbow trout, dolly varden, cutthroat trout, steelhead, sockeye and coho salmon July through September.
- Seasonal Use: April through November.
- Topo Map: Ketchikan C-5
McDonald Lake Cabin (K-08) (special drawing May-September)
- Location: On mainland, lake east of Yes Bay. Cabin is on Wolverine Island in McDonald Lake.
- Access: Air: 50 miles from Ketchikan. Minimum flight time charged: 2 hrs. Trail: 1.5 miles from Yes Bay.
- Unapproved Water Source: Lake.
- Wildlife: Sitka black-tailed deer, black bear, brown bear.
- Fish: Rainbow trout, dolly varden, cutthroat trout, sockeye, coho and chum salmon.
- Seasonal Use: April through October.
- Topo Map: Ketchikan D-6
Phocena Bay Cabin (K-09)
- Location: Unamed bay on west side of Gravina Island.
- Access: Air: By floatplane or boat about 1.5 air miles from Ketchikan, buoy provided. Minimum flight time charged: 1.1 hrs.
- Unapproved Water Source: Nearby stream.
- Wildlife: Sitka black-tailed deer, black bear.
- Fish: Lingcod, red snapper, salmon.
- Seasonal Use: April through October.
- Topo Map: Ketchikan A-6
- Nautical Chart: 17436/17432 (Dall Head).
Orchard Lake Cabin (K-10)
- Location: East of Shrimp Bay at east end of Orchard Lake, Revillagigedo Island, 140 ft. elevation.
- Access: Air: 34 miles from Ketchikan. Minimum flight time charged: 1.6 hrs.
- Unapproved Water Source: Lake and nearby streams.
- Wildlife: Sitka black-tailed deer, black bear.
- Fish: Cutthroat and some kokanee
- Seasonal Use: April through October.
- Topo Map: Ketchikan D-5.
- Note: Closed for Repairs.
Patching Lake Cabin (K-11)
- Location: Northern end of Patching Lake, central Revillagigedo Island, 300 ft. elev.
- Access: Air: 20 miles from Ketchikan. Minimum flight time charged: 1.2 hrs.
- Unapproved Water Source: Lake and stream near cabin.
- Wildlife: Sitka black-tailed deer, black bear.
- Fish: Cutthroat trout.
- Seasonal Use: April through October.

Plenty Cutthroat Cabin (K-12)
- Location: East end of Shrimp Bay at west end of Orchard Lake, northern Revillagigedo Island.
- Access: Air: 34 miles from Ketchikan. Minimum flight time charged: 1.6 hrs. Boat and Trail: 2.5 hrs. by water from Ketchikan to Shrimp Bay, then 1/2 mile by trail, Buoy in Klu Bay.
- Unapproved Water Source: Lake and stream near cabin.
- Wildlife: Sitka black-tailed deer, black bear.
- Fish: Cutthroat trout and some kokanee
- Seasonal Use: April through October.

Rainbow Lake Cabin (K-14)
- Location: South end of Cleveland Peninsula northwest of Ketchikan, 650 ft. elev.
- Access: Air: 27 miles from Ketchikan. Minimum flight time charged: 1.2 hrs.
- Unapproved Water Source: Lake.
- Wildlife: Sitka black-tailed deer, mountain goat, brown bear.
- Fish: Rainbow trout.
- Seasonal Use: May through October.

Reflection Lake Cabin (K-15) (special drawing May-September)
- Location: Mainland north of Bell Island, 300 ft. elev.
- Access: Air: 50 miles from Ketchikan. Minimum flight time charged: 2.2 hrs. Water: To Short Bay then hike about 2 miles to Reflection Lake.
- Unapproved Water Source: Lake.
- Wildlife: Sitka black-tailed deer, mountain goat, black bear, brown bear.
- Fish: Cutthroat, rainbow trout, Dolly Varden, sockeye salmon, steelhead, and coho salmon.
- Seasonal Use: May through October.
- Topo Map: Bradfield Canal A-5
- Nautical Chart: 17422
- Note: Trail bridge is out 0.5 miles from Short Bay.
Helm Creek Cabin (K-16)
- Location: North side about midway up Helm Bay on Cleveland Peninsula.
- Access: Air: Floatplane or boat. Air: 24 miles from Ketchikan, mooring buoy is provided for up to 26 ft. boat.
- Unapproved Water Source: 250 gallon collection tank.
- Wildlife: Sitka black-tailed deer, black bear, brown bear.
- Fish: Good for saltwater species, crab.
- Seasonal Use: Yearlong.

Deer Mountain Cabin (K-17)
- Location: Above timberline 3 miles from Ketchikan.
- Access: Air: Well-marked, 2 mile trail from Ketchikan road system.
- Unapproved Water Source: Pools and ponds near cabin.
- Wildlife: Sitka black-tailed deer early in the fall, black bear, wolf.
- Fish: N.A.
- Seasonal Use: N.A.
- Topo Map: Ketchikan B-5
- Note: No stove but can easily be heated with small camp stove or candles.

Lake Shelokum Shelter (K-23)
- Location: West inlet to Lake Shelokum.
- Access: Air: 50 miles from Ketchikan. Minimum flight time charged: 2.2 hrs. Water: To Bailey Bay Buoy, then hike 2 miles up to shelter.
- Unapproved Water Source: Stream near shelter.
- Wildlife: Sitka black-tailed deer, mountain goat.
- Fish: Limited cutthroat fishing.
- Seasonal Use: May through October.

Long Lake Shelter (K-24)
- Location: On the north end of Revillagigedo Island on west end of Long Lake.
- Access: Air: 55 miles from Ketchikan. Minimum flight time charged: 2 hrs. Trail: 1 mile hike up to shelter from saltwater.
- Unapproved Water Source: Stream near shelter.
- Wildlife: Sitka black-tailed deer, black bear.
- Fish: Cutthroat, rainbow trout, and Dolly Varden.
- Seasonal Use: May through October.

McDonald Lake Shelter (K-25)
- Location: On mainland near Wolverine Creek in Yes Bay. Approximately 1/2 mile from McDonald Lake Cabin.
- Access: Air: 50 miles from Ketchikan. Minimum flight time charged: 2 hrs. Trail: 1.3 miles from Yes Bay.
- Unapproved Water Source: River.
- Wildlife: Sitka black-tailed deer, black bear, brown bear.
- Fish: Cutthroat, rainbow trout, Dolly Varden, steelhead and coho salmon.
- Seasonal Use: May through October.

Reflection Lake Shelter (K-26)
- Location: Mainland north of Bailey Bay at outlet on south end of Reflection Lake.
- Access: Air: 50 miles from Ketchikan. Minimum flight time charged: 2.2 hrs. Water: To Short Bay buoy then a hike of about 1-1/2 miles to Reflection Lake.
- Tides: Any.
- Unapproved Water Source: Stream near shelter.
- Wildlife: Sitka black-tailed deer, mountain goat, black bear, brown bear.
- Fish: Cutthroat, rainbow trout, Dolly Varden, steelhead, sockeye and coho salmon.
- Seasonal Use: May through October.

Wolf Lake Shelter (K-27)
- Location: Central Revillagigedo Island near the northwest shore of upper Wolf Lake.
- Access: Air: 18 miles from Ketchikan. Minimum flight time charged: 1.2 hrs. Trail: 2.6 miles from Moser Bay.
- Unapproved Water Source: Lake.
- Wildlife: Sitka black-tailed deer, black bear.
- Fish: Cutthroat, rainbow trout.
- Seasonal Use: May through October.
